                              History of the Department

History of the Department: Shree Gurudeo Shikshan Prasarak Mandal’s Swami Muktanand College Of Science was established in 1991. This Science College comprises  of various principal subjects which includes  Zoology as well. The third year of Zoology was started in 1993-94.

The Department of zoology has one well equipped laboratory with different types of teaching aids such as models, specimens, charts, permanent slides, microscopes and  various other equipments. The Department of  zoology conducts zoo Day festival in which poster competition, rangoli competition, quiz competition one minute talk  competition conducted and motivated students exchange their ideas for subject. Project like Apiculture, Vermiculture, Sericulture and research work is going on.  Teachers motivate the students to actively participate in projects curricular and co-curricular activities of the Department.

                                          Goals and Objectives

  • To conduct projects on Apiculture, Sericulture, Vermiculture  and  poultry to create awareness among students regarding applied course.
  • To create environment conservation awareness through study tour.
  • We motivate students to conduct seminars, workshops on the topics included in the curriculum. It will help to achieve academic excellence
  • We strictly observe the teaching schedule, timely conduct of examinations, preparing teaching plans and its implementations, departmental meetings of teaching staff.             

  Scope &Importance of the Subject

·        Zoology is one of the most important branch of science which includes the study of animals and their biological processes. Zoology course is offered to the under graduate and post graduate levels. Candidates can also obtained Ph D. degree after completing the post-graduation. Students in zoology  basically learn animal anatomy, physiology, biochemistry, genetics, evolution, ecology etc.  Variety of career options are available after pursuingB.sc. degree. Candidates can find opportunities in Government department, environmental agencies, universities, colleges, biotechnological,  pharmaceutical fields, ecological fields. B.Sc Zoology  students learn animal life from every angle of ecology, evolution cell biology, developmental biology, genetics,general zoology. They perform critical study in protecting endangered species and other wildlife from  habitat loss, disease invasive  species and climate change. They have tremendous scope in teaching fields, pathological laboratory, wield life study.

           Course Outcomes:

      F.Y.B. Sc. Zoology-

CO1. Exposure to diversity in animal groups and to understand the process of Evolution and industries based on the zoological areas are covered.

CO2. The practical course is aimed to equip the students with skills required for animal identification, morphological, anatomical, technical description,         classification and also  applications of zoology in the various industries.

 S.Y.B. Sc. Zoology-

 CO1. The level of the theory and practical courses are one step ahead of the first year B.Sc. courses based on content of first year syllabus.

 CO2. The course intends to inform the students in Animal Systematics, Animal Diversity and applied field of Zoology such as Fisheries, Apiculture,               Sericulture, etc.

 T.Y.B. Sc. Zoology-

  CO1. Detailed studies of the various disciplines of the zoology subject and other branches of zoology such as Genetics, Animal Physiology, Molecular      biology, Biochemistry, Micro technique, Animal systematic and Diversity, General Embryology, Histology. Cell Biology, Biodiversity, Entomology, Biological Techniques, etc.

   CO2. The students will also learn about use of various technical skills in the biological sciences to be helpful during research in the zoology subject.

                                                  Best Practices of the Department

With an object to provide employable skills which can be useful for starting a small- scaled unit after education as they have vermiculture and  aquaculture in there syllabus vermicomposting unit establishment and preparation vermi bed was taken to impart employable skills. A small vermiculture unit is established in college  botanical garden and vermi- compost is being added to plants in botanical garden. Conversion of leaf  litters into vermi- compost

Providing artificial nests for increasing local bird.
